Shannon Sloan-Spice

Shannon is a cultural mythologist and Story Doctor. She has a M.A./Ph.D in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, CA where she taught “The Healing Power of Creativity.” She is a professor of mythology and environmental humanities at Oakton Community College, IL, and has had a strong career in the theater as a performer, director, designer, and producer.


Background & Certifications

Shannon is certified in Trauma-Informed Care, Ecopsychology, Social and Emotional Learning, and is a 200-hr yoga teacher. She guides people to return to right relationship with self, community, and the Natural World by cultivating creative practices and personal rituals to open pathways for reciprocity and sharing one’s unique gifts in service to the world.

Indigenous Roots

​Shannon apprenticed herself to a Bodawedme (Potawatomi) medicine man over 30 years ago and has walked the medicine path ever since, specializing in indigenous wisdom and story healing. She is a Standing Rock water protector and co-founded Water Protectors of Milwaukee, where she continues to advocate for environmental justice and clean water. She is a member of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids, and she is an ordained minister/ceremonialist who has performed weddings, baby blessings, and end-of-life grief support.

Personal Approach

As someone deeply connected with our land and our ancestry, Shannon brings an incredibly insightful and emotive understanding into all of her care work. She may be available to host traditional medicine rituals or offer support during memorials and periods of grieving upon request.
